Why Disposable wipes are a thing of the past

Reusable face wipes and makeup removers have been in the spotlight over the last few years, and if you’re one of the thousands of women to use them you’ll know why. They are more versatile, cheaper and better for the environment than disposables. Plus, if you’ve ever used one on your face you’ll appreciate how soft they can be against even the most sensitive of skins.

Disposable wipes are not biodegradable, meaning when they end up in the ocean they can be really harmful to sea life, or they will just be another thing contributing to landfill. But, beyond the environmental aspect, they really are a game-changer when it comes to nappy-changes and face wipes.

So why are they so popular?

  • Versatile – At our house, we have a few baskets of wipes around the house. We use these for nappy changes, face wipes, meal clean-up and even bath-time. These little cloth squares are silky, thorough and easy to rinse.

  • Soft and natural – There are a few brands of wipes on the market right now, but one thing they do have in common is that they are all made from natural fibres, like bamboo, cotton and hemp. As a result, the wipes are gentle, durable and easy to wash. Plus, depending on your end-use, you can choose a fibre to suit. At Australian Cloth Nappy Rental we stock Bamboo Velour wipes, highly recommended for newborn and sensitive bottoms, add some essential oil blend for a wonderfully scented winning combo.

  • Hassle-free – Cloth wipes truly are super easy, especially when you’re already washing reusable nappies. It’s as simple as use and throw into your dry pail with your nappies. Plus, one cloth can often be enough to take on even the messiest of nappies. The Cheeky Wipes mini-kit comes with all you need to start using cloth wipes, including container to store your wet wipes, and a travel bag to take them on the run.

  • Save time and Money – Get ready for this one, you can save more than $500 in the first year compared to buying disposable wipes, plus no dashes to the stores. Often when you use disposable baby wipes you try to grab one or two and out come half a dozen (not to mention all the times your tot has managed to empty a pack the minute they get their hands on them) It’s money down the drain!

  • Eco-friendly – no landfill and no harsh chemicals. We put so much emphasis on what we put in our bodies these days, but we should be just as concerned with what we put on it. By using reusable wipes you can chose what you are cleaning yourself, and your baby with. No more harsh chemicals that can dry out your skin. It can be as easy as using plain water or if you want to be more inventive you can get creative by adding things like coconut oil or rosewater to face wipes.

At Australian Cloth Nappy Rental https://www.australianclothnappyrental.com.au/ we are firm supporters of the reusable wipe for your tot (and yourself). For me, it was more than the cost savings and the environmental win, its the fact that one reusable wipe can truly do what 3-4 disposable wipes can do. They really are that good. Plus, if you are a cloth mum, its a super easy to add these to your current wash routine.
